🌿 “But I’m Not Good at Math” — And Other Lies That Keep You From Feeling Good With Money

You know that little voice in your head—the one that pipes up every time you look at your bank account, or try to calculate how much to tip at dinner?

Yeah, that voice.

It says things like:

“I was hopeless at maths in school.”

“I still count on my fingers.”

“Budgeting feels like trying to read ancient hieroglyphics.”

“Surely this means I’m just... not a ‘money person’.”

If that sounds familiar — first of all, I see you.

Second of all, let me gently (and lovingly) call BS on that story.

Because here’s the truth I want you to hold onto like a warm cup of tea in winter:

👉 Being “bad at maths” doesn’t disqualify you from being brilliant with money.

Not even a little bit.

Let’s Bust a Big, Tired Myth

Somewhere along the way, many of us were quietly handed this idea that being good with money requires some sort of spreadsheet sorcery or a secret love of algebra.

But managing money well? It’s not about formulas.

It’s about feelings.

The truth is:

You don’t need to know how to calculate compound interest in your head.

You don’t need to remember what the hypotenuse is (unless you’re using it in Scrabble).

And you definitely don’t need to become a financial wizard overnight.

What you do need?

✨ A sense of what matters most to you.

✨ A few simple, sustainable systems (nothing fancy — think “laundry basket” level of organised).

✨ A willingness to choose your long-term peace over your short-term panic.

✨ And maybe someone in your corner reminding you you’re not broken.

Because money management isn’t about getting it perfect.

It’s about showing up — even if you’re sweating a bit when you open your bank app.

Meet Emma: Proof That You Don’t Need to Be a Human Calculator

Emma was one of my clients a little while back.

Lovely. Smart. Deeply committed to building a better future — but she’d freeze up the second numbers were involved.

She once told me she avoided group dinners because splitting the bill made her break out in hives. (You too? Me too.)

But here’s what Emma had:

A clear-as-day vision for what she wanted her life to feel like (free, grounded, independent).

A willingness to take tiny, imperfect steps.

And the courage to keep going, even when she felt like she was fumbling in the dark.

She started budgeting. She set up automatic transfers. She checked in with her money once a month — no shame allowed.

Now?

Emma’s got a fully-funded emergency stash, investments ticking along in the background, and she’s saving for her first home.

She still jokes that she can’t do maths — but now she laughs when she says it.

Because she knows it was never about the maths.

It was about learning to lead herself.

If You Can Count to Ten, You Can Do This

I know self-doubt is loud. Especially when it’s been hanging around since Year 9 algebra.

But let me say this as simply as I can:

👉 If you can add, subtract, and trust yourself — you’ve got everything you need to build a completely different relationship with money.

You don’t need to become someone else.

You don’t need to become a finance bro or download a budgeting app that makes you feel like you’re failing every week.

You just need a system that fits you.

One that reflects your values, your goals, your beautifully imperfect life.

And maybe — if you’re ready — someone like me to walk beside you.

Because I’ve been there. I’ve untangled the mess. I’ve cried into my bank statements.

And I’ve come out the other side.

So if you're ready to ditch the shame and lead yourself with more clarity, confidence, and calm — I’d love to help.

P.S.

I know this was a long one — I get excited. What can I say? I’m that person who starts talking about financial systems and ends up drawing diagrams on napkins.

But if you’re still reading, I want you to know: you’re not alone.

You’re not behind.

And you’re not bad at money.

You just need a new way in.

And I’m here, cheering you on every step of the way.
